Sugar cane field worker, Sagay, Negros.
I had to see for myself how these hard working people cut canes. When I saw a group of them working near Sagay in Negros Island I just walked over to them.
They work in brutal heat wearing only flip flops and covering themselves from the sun wearing thick clothing. Sunscreen is not an option of course. The cane has sharp strong leaves that reminds me of corn. The ground is rough making walking difficult. I just wonder how can they smile doing this work for 80php (less then $2) a day?
